The Mpow EG9 gaming headset is the kind of headset to consider when you are looking for a cheap budget sound experience, but also looking for a cool looking headset like the ones the pros wear.

It goes without saying that gaming headsets have gotten a lot better since we first started playing online; we’ve come a long way since that old Xbox 360 headset. Playing games with a headset adds a sense of immersion with a unique sound quality that just doesn’t quite translate over speakers. Plus, they cancel out a ton of outside noise. I’ve never looked back once I invested in a gaming headset.

I came across this particular headset when I discovered that some folks were taking interest in this one over a similar looking headset that I previously reviewed. I started doing some research, and unfortunately, it seems I have to jump through a bunch of links just to find some info on the Mpow EG9. And so, to keep you from following in my woes, I present my own review.

If you really want to get the most out of your gaming, you’ll definitely want to invest in a good pair of headphones. Here are a few things to know about the Mpow EG9 headset.

It is Compatible with Consoles and Computers

One of the main selling points of this product is the massive amount of compatibility with nearly any gaming platform. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which plugs into pretty much anything! I was able to plug it into my old 5 year old MP3 player with no issue. Now, this headset is strictly analog, which means there’s no need to download any drivers or firmware to make things compatible. Just plug and play!

Build and Comfort

At first sight, it looks like it was built to look cool on your head, yet still be a low cost. That being said, the cheaply-made plastic may turn off some gamers. But we also don’t need the most expensive gear just to listen to the game’s audio (Unless you are really crazy about sound, or you are a musician!)

This headset, like many others in its price range, looks a lot like the ones you see at those e-Sports venues, the ones the gamers wear while they tear up the competition. It has LED backlights that will light up the ear cups and mic, making you look pretty high-tech. The lights are powered by an additional USB cable.

This headset has a lot of cushioning on the headband and ear cups, which does make it feel very bulky, but it certainly helps with the comfort. It has a memory foam feel to them, and soft to the touch. The cushions are made with a synthetic leather material. The headband can be adjusted to fit your head. Keep in mind that the ear cups cannot rotate or swivel like some of the other headsets I have used.

Overall, I found this to be a pretty comfy headset. It’s also very lightweight, which really helps ensure that your neck isn’t straining. One thing that may be a concern is wearing ear cup headsets tend to make your ears get warm if you play for hours on end.

Sound Quality

The massive ear cups do a really good job of canceling out any outside noise on their own. It also has a good sound quality for something fairly cheap. Another thing that sold me is the adjustable volume control on the headphone cable. This medium sized dial lets you quickly adjust the sound without having to manually change the volume on your TV/Console/PC.

What about the Microphone?

The microphone that is attached to this headset is one thing that I really like over the old G2000 headset. Unlike my old one, this headset mic is a lot more flexible, and even is noise-cancelling.

Is it worth the Price?

Just like the cars we drive, gaming headsets come in all shapes and sizes, and their price tags are no different! The Mpow EG9 headset is cheap, even cheaper than other headsets. The light-up headset is cool, but only a gimmick for some, otherwise, it does not serve any other purpose besides lighting up your head.

The Final Word / Verdict

To sum things up, this is not a perfect headset, but it definitely feels like a professional gaming headset without costing an arm and a leg. It is cheaply made, which can be reflected in the price, yet the sound quality is good and clear. I find that this headset is best for those who would like to get into professional gaming gear without breaking the bank, and compared to other kinds of headsets out there, it seems to be the better option.

I hope you have enjoyed my review of the Mpow EG9 gaming headset. If you have any questions, feedback, or requests, feel free to let me know in the comments below!
