Site Update – Feb 2021

Greetings, and Happy (late) New Year!

This is just a little site update to let you know what’s been going on so far. It’s been a while since (as usual)  I last posted a site update, and truth be told, there is a lot of stuff to cover.

A New PC

First off, some good news; I have finally got my new PC built and running nicely. This has been a project that I’ve been wanting to get done for the longest time, but due to other IRL distractions, I hadn’t had much free time to dedicate to it. But now, after months, it is finally done. I’ve built this PC from scratch with the sole intention of being able to play today’s games with decent performance. I have to admit, the only thing I did not upgrade yet is the graphics card, due to lack of funds. But even still, I’ve noticed that my games still boot up much faster than my old machine. Even my mod-heavy games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 can boot up faster than ever!

YouTube Videos?

Which brings me to the next piece of news; I’ve now got video recording and editing software installed now. I’m finally able to record all of my in-game footage, and so, I might be able to start uploading videos to YouTube. At least on PC, that is. I do not have one of those capture cards yet, so until then, I won’t be able to record any console footage. Until then, if I ever upload anything Nintendo Switch related, it would have been a result of me transferring media files from an SD card onto the PC!

On the subject of video recording, I have found some potential concerns. First off, my PC is being used for both recording and running the games at the same time. As a result, I’ve noticed that for any games that are resource-heavy, or set to higher graphics settings, the video footage I end up with seems to be choppy or stuttering at times. This seems to be hit and miss, depending on what I play. Perhaps until I upgrade my graphics card, I’ll need to stick with keeping my video quality a little lower than usual.

Now that the somewhat boring stuff is out of the way, let’s talk about what I’ve been playing the last few months.

Skyrim

As I mentioned in an older post, I have a very big love for RPGs and games made by Bethesda, so naturally, I’ve started a new playthrough. I’ve even got a new set of mods to try out as well, and if I enjoy them, I might even start writing up mod reviews again.

Stardew Valley

As of this writing, there is now a new update for this game, version 1.5. From what I’ve read, it seems to be quite the significant update since the last, so I can’t wait to try it out. I’ve once again started a new playthrough; as a challenge, I’m trying to play through the game without buying anything from the General Store.

Fallout 4

Ever since trying it out on my newly built PC, I have one thing to say; Fallout 4 runs noticeably faster than my older machine. The game boots up within about 30-40 seconds, without any mods installed. It’s quite nice when compared to the 2-3 minutes of waiting I did on the older PC.

Borderlands 3

Here’s a new one for you all. This may or may not seem like much of a surprise, but I’m also a huge fan of the Borderlands series. The main reason I have not started playing this sooner is because of the massive backlog of games I had to play through. Plus, I still had to finish playing that new DLC that was released for Borderlands 2. From what I’ve found out, it has a little bit of backstory that fills the gaps between the two games.

So far, I’ve been having a blast playing through Borderlands 3. Since it has been about a year since it came out on Steam, I had the privilege of missing out on any potential spoilers tied to the story. Once I’ve finished the story, I plan on writing up some content for this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

I got this for Christmas from my girlfriend, along with a few more games. I love that she is playing this too! We have a little routine, where she plays the puzzles, and I fight the tough bosses. This year also marks the 35th anniversary of the Zelda franchise, so it is nice to get back into Zelda games once more.

Super Mario Maker 2

I love playing Mario. I also love making things. And they both combine to give you a game that lets your creativity run wild!

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

I love the Assassin’s Creed series. Or at least, the first few titles in the series. To be honest, I’ve fallen behind on many of the newer entries. The last one I played to completion was Assassin’s Creed III, and so I’m glad I get to continue where I left off!

Fable Anniversary

I forgot that I had this in my Steam library for the longest time. This game takes me back 17 years. Of all of the PC games, this one seems to be giving me the easiest time with recording video; I suppose it is a game that was originally released in 2004. I’m actually considering making a Let’s play series with my gameplay footage.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post.

Have fun, as always.
