Where To Download Stardew Valley Mods?

Good morning gamers, and today, I want to show you where to download Stardew Valley mods, and some of my favorites to get you started.

Stardew Valley is an amazing game that has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide, and I definitely am among them. Ever since its release back in 2016, the game has continued to get updates and additional content.

The game is fairly simple in nature; inheriting your grandpa’s old farm, you’re tasked with restoring it to its former glory while exploring the local town, befriending villagers, going fishing, and maybe starting a family!

As of writing, the game now had its most recent update of 1.6, which adds a ton of new stuff to the game. That being said, while the game is charming to play on its own, I find that using mods really breathes a lot of fresh air into the game experience.

Now, I don’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence here; you probably found this webpage by googling for it, so you might already know a thing or two about mods in video games. NexusMods is my top pick for where to download Stardew Valley mods.

But for those who are new to modding, this post will be your guide to getting you started down the path of modding your game. I’m no expert, but I’ll do my best to provide as much info as I can to help you .

Why Bother with Mods?

Stardew Valley is a farming sim, and a really good one at that. For the most part, it was developed by only one person over the course of 4 years. Yet as fun as it is to play, there will eventually come a point when you have completed nearly 100% of what you can do in Stardew Valley

Much like watching the finale of a Netflix series, completing a game can sometimes leave you feeling a bit empty inside, at least in my experience. Once you done everything a game has to offer, where do we go from here?

But if you love Stardew Valley as much as I do, and wish to keep playing even after 100%, then this is where mods will help keep that itch going strong.

Modded games have a huge amount of potential. There are simple mods that add new crops to grow, some mods that add new places to explore, and there are even “quality of life” mods that make playing the game more convenient.

Modding your game gives you the chance to get a fresh start at playing the game all over again. And with a growing 5+ year old modding community, there are no shortage of superb mods out there that could have you playing for many more hours. Not bad for a game that costs less than $20!

Popular Modding Platforms

It goes without saying that Nexus Mods is my personal favorite place to find popular mods in the modding community. Not only are there loads of amazing things on the website, but it also offers a massively useful tool; Vortex is an app that helps you download and organize your mods for Stardew Valley, and many other games. At the click of a button, you can add and remove mods to your game on the fly.

ModDrop is another good place for finding mods. The site also features their own mod managing tool to help you organize mods downloaded thru the site.

For the average gamer, NexusMods is personally my top pick for modding your game. With its close integration with Vortex, you can easily find, add, and remove mods without having to delve into coding or scripting.

Simply put, modding made easy!

Other Sources for Stardew Valley Mods

If the idea of using the above aren’t quite up your alley, then you may want to consider some other places to find some mods. Apart from checking out the official game forums, another place I’ve found mods is on the Chucklefish Mod forums.

There are some different mods to be found within the forums, but keep in mind that you may need to do some extra work to get your mods working. Certain mods have to be installed manually, without the help of a mod manager, so make sure to read the mod author’s instructions!

Tips for Choosing and Installing Mods

When it comes to picking out mods, always make sure to check if the mod in question works with the latest version of the game. Some mods don’t always work if they are out of date with the game’s version, so keep that in mind!

While in game, you can check your game’s version on startup; in the main menu, click the [?] button on the bottom right of the screen, and you’ll see the most recent version number.

As of writing, Stardew Valley is now at version 1.6.5.

Another good thing to do is to back up your saves. If you install mods in the middle of a playthrough, some things can go wrong, which can brick your save at worst, and cause glitches at best.

The Bottom Line on Mods

All in all, modding your game has become a lot easier in the past few years. One click solutions are now a thing thanks to Vortex, and if you are serious about further modding, you may want to consider more ambitious mods out there.

From content expansion mods such as Stardew Valley Expanded, to quality-of-life improvements like Automate, mods have the power to transform and enrich your game in ways that make it all the better!

There are endless possibilities for customizing your game and making it your own. Personally, I always like to pick mods that add more flavor to the game, or quality of life mods.

Anyways, this is just about all I have for today.

I hope this post helps you out, and if you have any questions or thoughts to share, feel free to leave a comment down below.

As always, have fun, and happy modding!

~Ken
