It’s been awhile
Yikes, it’s been almost 3 months since I last wrote a post. Let’s just say that a lot of things have been happening offline. As much as I hate to use the word ‘busy’, I just haven’t had much time to write up some posts.
If you recall one of my previous posts, I had some plans on redesigning Videogame Guy. I’ve had to put a lot of this on the back burner due to some IRL things that I’ve had to get done. Thankfully, it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying some games. In fact, I was able to go back and play some games I haven’t touched in a while.
Below are a few things that I’ve been doing.
I’ve gotten back into Breath of the Wild
I have to admit, I got right back into this game as soon as I saw the teaser video for a sequel to Breath of the Wild. Not that I was expecting to find a spoiler or anything, but I have not yet beaten the first game yet.
It’s been so long since I’ve visited Hyrule, I pretty much forgot what I was doing at the time. Hunting for shrines, or collecting materials to upgrade my gear, perhaps? One thing I do know is that I’ve still not went to Hyrule Castle and battled Calamity Ganon. I might want to do that before this new sequel comes out.
I’ve forgotten how much fun it is to explore the world. There’s just so much freedom in what you can do, it’s just mind-blowing. I’m almost thinking of starting a brand new game, just so I can try to play through with a fresh start. Maybe on Master Mode for a challenge?
For now, I’ll just keep playing on my original playthrough for now, I’d like to see ig I can find some cool things that may have not been found yet.
I’ve been modding Stardew Valley
It’s been a long trek, but I have just completed Year 3, and got the best possible evaluation. In one playthrough, no less! I have to say, I was pretty happy to have completed so much in only two years of playing! While that was fun and all, there was just one small concern; it left me with a sort of empty feeling. The kind of feeling you get when binge-watching a Netflix series and finish the last episode.
What do you do now? Is it over?
This whole time, I was playing on my Switch. I had forgotten that I also owned Stardew Valley on the PC before I ever touched it on a console. I came back to my old farm on the PC, collecting weeds and rocks. Year 1. Summer… It looks like I haven’t made much progress since I made the switch to my Nintendo.
But I had soon discovered something, something I still do on all of my old Bethesda games, and one of the reasons why those games are still being played by yours truly:
Mods.
I learned that modding was a thing on Stardew Valley. I felt so blind to not even realize that this was a perfect example of a game in which mods could be made.
And so, I started looking at the mods that people have made, and I’ve got to say, there are some really ambitious ones. There are also some simple mods that are very helpful and improve quality of life.
But just as with Skyrim, there are a whole lot of bad/mediocre mods to fill the gaps between all of the awesome ones. I remember when I once wrote a mod review for a Skyrim mod, and based on the level of traffic I got on that post, it seemed like a lot of people may have enjoyed what I wrote.
I’ve been thinking of getting back into writing up some reviews for game mods. There are some truly remarkable mods that greatly improve on the original game, and I feel that these may be some of the best ways to enjoy the games we already own.
Anyways, that’s about all I have to say for the time being. While it may seem like old news for many, this was just some of the more recent exciting things I have to share for now. I hope you enjoyed my little post. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any thoughts or suggestions to make.
Happy gaming!
