Accessories

Ever since the video game industry got started, there’s been loads of peripherals, both 1st and 3rd party, that have been used alongside our favorite video game consoles. Some of these are awesome, while others were a complete waste of money (I’m looking at you, R.O.B.!). Even today, we’ve still got a massive pile of garbage accessories available for our game systems. You can never be sure how much use you’ll get out of your product.

With so much junk to sift through, this is where I come in! There are many cool gems out there that you can find for a fraction of the cost that you’d normally find on the shelf. I will examine each product with care, and give you my thoughts. With awesome sites like Amazon and Ebay, it is so much faster and cheaper to shop online these days. I will look around for the best possible places for you to shop, and I’ll link them from each review I write.

Why did I start writing reviews for accessories?

Truth be told, before I started on this site, I had another website before this one, Video Game Accessories. This was a niche website, where I was writing product reviews on various videogame accessories.

Why? Because I like game accessories!

The thing is, gaming as a whole is my passion, and so it didn’t make sense to me to start a separate site for each thing I liked. Thus, Videogame Guy was born instead.

The transition was fairly seamless; both sites have the same layout and everything.

But I’m going off topic; I’m going to answer why I started on reviews for accessories.

The reason I’ve started on product reviews for accessories is so that I can help you find the right kinds of gear to use with your gaming setups. Technology has exploded alongside video games, and as a result, we have a huge variety of accessories to choose from. Most of us would love to grab the biggest, shiniest, most expensive thing on the market, but the truth is, you can find some great things at much better prices.

I learned this the hard way when I first got a full-time job. When you get that first fat paycheck, you tend to shoot for the expensive stuff on the shelf. I bought a gaming headset for a whopping $250! I was happy with the purchase at first; I was finally able to Skype with friends and play a few rounds of Team Fortress without typing every word… But it wasn’t long until I realized that I didn’t need the most expensive one at BestBuy.

My goal is to help you guys find the right gear for gaming; not too expensive, but still good enough to last a few years. I like to treat my consoles and computer accessories the same way I treat my cars and tools: take good care of them, and they will last you a very long time.
